BookClub is an author-led learning platform that connects authors to readers. Pitched as “MasterClass meets GoodReads,” I joined this education-focused startup prior to their launch and series A funding as Creative Producer — directing story development of each book club, creating club themes and styles through writing scripts, directing video production, editing, creating motion graphics and more. I also built the company brand itself through asset creation, art direction, and design, working closely with the VP of Brand, VP of Production, and Creative Director.

Creative Producer

Series A Funding

Establishing the BookClub platform and product prior to launch helped them acquire Series A funding of $20MM, 58% larger than the average Series A funding in 2020. This was used to continue growing the platform and connecting more authors to readers.

Barbara Corcoran

Through celebrity moderated video interviews, BookClub was able to best categorize themed book club series that readers could explore and learn from a wide array of authors. One of the first productions we did in this format was Barbara Corcoran’s entrepreneur series as the Shark Tank star interviewed fellow entrepreneurs and their books.

Astonish Me

Maggie Shipstead

Direct Address videos on BookClub were one of the most intimate styles of learning from authors, speaking directly to the viewer watching the series and address key attributes of their novel. With Maggie Shipstead’s novel “Astonish Me,” we explored the backdrop of ballet in the 1970’s and 80’s. I created the motion graphics for this book club along with writing and establishing the interview theme and story.

Another moderated series was with the leadership-focused FranklinCovey company. Interviewing several leaders throughout the FranklinCovey organization and beyond, this book club series lent itself to be more educational, providing a platform for businesses and leaders to find insights into optimizing how they lead. I created the theme of the series, writing the club series interviews and story flow, as well as created promotional clips and motion graphics.

The Secrets We Kept

Lara Prescott

“The Secrets We Kept” was the debut novel of author Lara Prescott. With this dramatic fiction, BookClub enabled Lara to speak about her inspiration and connection with Doctor Zhivago. I produced this series focusing on core themes of the story, primarily Lara’s passion and process in creating exhilarating emotional arcs.

Brand Materials

Joining the startup prior to the platform launch, BookClub constantly was testing and adjusting their approach. With that, the brand was needing to be refined with materials to build brand awareness and get create hype leading up to their launch. I created and designed several materials from marketing assets to production document, promotional content, and more.
